This is freaking insane.... They issued a Emergency Broadcast System test alert almost an hour ago and it hasnt stopped yet... The worst thing is, it turns on my freakin HD cable box and starts blaring it out through my HT system....

Im glad it works but WTF!?!?

I had to freaking unplug the damn thing....

What's going on? Is it just the annoying screechy beepy sound? This is the most exciting thread of the day - sweet.

Look outside, maybe you'll see a mushroom cloud.

Yes, its doing the annoying buzzy sound.... then the dial tone sound... then some guy saying its a required monthly test... then the buzzy sound again...

Also, the top 1/4 of the screen is a bright red scrolly thing saying its a monthly test for the state...

ARGHHHHH

I was in the middle of watching a damn HD movie...

The emergency broadcast system is the msot useless peice of trash ever invented.

i've certainly never see it warn of any emergancies. the one time i can think of when it REALLY needed to go (Loma Prieta earthquake), the cable bit the dust well before the earthquake actually reached us (waves obviously hit the cable folks before us). so it wasn't much good even if they triggered it.

Welcome to the Emergency Alert System (EAS) page. The EAS system was established by the FCC in November of 1994 with the approval of Part 11 EAS rules. The EAS replaced the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) as a tool the President and others may use to warn the public about emergency situations.

We use the NWR (NOAA Weather Radio) system around here frequently for weather reports, etc. - A lot of farmers around here do so. The Emergency Broadcast System runs on top of the NWR system... I know that a lot of people around here are glad it exists 😉 I've got a CB in my car that automatically turns itself on and tunes to the weather channel when it detects an emergency broadcast signal. It's come in useful a few times... (giving alerts that a few local rivers, streams, etc., were well beyond their flood boundaries)

It might not benefit you much (or y'all in your area), but it does some of us 🙂
