Dear Me (myself),

We have recently been informed that your PayPal Account received funds from
an account that has been associated with unauthorized credit card use.

Details of the transaction and this case are as follows:

Buyer's Name: ***************
Buyer's Email: ***************
Transaction Date: Nov 3, 2004
Transaction Amount: -$50.00 USD
Case #:*************

PayPal indemnifies sellers from chargeback liability resulting from a
buyer's unauthorized use of a stolen credit card and/or false claims of
non-shipment of goods for payments received through PayPal of up to
$5,000.00 USD per year when the following conditions are met:

1. The seller has a U.S., U.K, or Canadian Verified Business or Verified
Premier Account.

2. The seller ships to the buyer's address listed on the Transaction
Details page.

3. The seller can provide reasonable proof of shipping which can be
tracked. This documentation must show that you shipped to the address on
the Transaction Details page. (Most U.S. carrier companies, including the
U.S. Postal Service, offer this service.) For transactions $250.00 USD or
more in value, the seller also needs to provide proof-of-receipt in the
form of a signature from the recipient. Because comparable proof of
shipping is not currently available for electronically-delivered items, we
are currently unable to offer Seller Protection for digital goods and other
electronically-delivered items.

4. The seller accepted a single payment from only one PayPal account for
the purchase. (Multiple payments from different accounts for a single item
are a fraud indicator. Sellers should not accept such payments.)

5. The seller cooperates in resolving disputes by responding within a
specified timeframe. When a complaint occurs, the seller must provide
complete information within 7 days of a request from PayPal. However, if
PayPal is required by the credit card association to respond immediately to
resolve a reversal, sellers must provide the information within 3 days.
PayPal will indicate the response time required in the e-mail message sent
to the seller.

6. The seller ships within 7 days of receiving payment.

A hold has been placed on the transaction in question while we investigate
this case. To assist us in resolving this case, please click on the link
below and provide us with the requested information:

assist you further if your reply is received past this timeframe.

Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to your reply. For more

Agreement.

I don't know why I got this email, and when the ask for some kind of hard evidence to prove that this is real I don't have any. I don't keep any logs of my deals online, after the people get the item I throw away the tracking number. Why did I get this and what can I do to keep from getting charged for something that I did 5+ months ago? I can't even remember what it was....

Paypal is the devil. They refuse to give me $8400 of mine. We're going to court over it, but worst case scenario is they release it in april.

The fake ones are derived from the real ones, the URL is just changed. His could be (and probably is) real.

How on earth am I suppose to provide proof this happened when it happened so long ago. I don't keep records, and my stupid account is being held with minus 48.25 (minus fees) until I do something about this or show them some kind of proof. I am so dissapointed in paypal right now.

you have to be very careful about e-mail you get from any site that asks you to click on a link and login. The scammers are getting more and more clever in their ability to make it seem like a legitimate e-mail.

To be sure, I would never login by clicking on a link in an e-mail, I always go to the website on my own to login. At that point you should be able to tell if there is really something going on with your account, or contact customer service through that session, so you know you are really dealing with Paypal.

edit- btw, Novemver to February is only 3 months, not 5. You ought to keep records of business you conduct for at least a year, 3 months is not very long at all.

See above. Take $48.25 lesson and avoid paypal.

I went to paypal and logged in and it shows the funds being held until I resolve this. This is bull, I'm not going to pay that, but I can't show any proof that it happened because I don't keep my transaction papers etc for that long. This is stupid, I cannot believe this could happen, is paypal that stupid not to realize, hey this guy is making a case after 5+ months of not doing anything. I'll be damned before I pay for anything on this one.

Read the paypal agreement, forrest. You agreed to those rules by using their service and accepting payment. It effectively reads that paypal has carte blanche over your account and any transactions associated with it.
