What the HELL is with United's award booking BS?!

Sometime in the past year they changed their system. When you select the initial dates it will reject them and show a calender with blue boxes around dates that are available...but if you click on those there is only a 1 in X change that there is actually anything available on those dates. Adding to it, it won't say it if it was the departure or destination dates, so you have to randomly pick dates until you find something.

Anyone know what is up with this or what agency would be the one to file a formal complaint against them with?

United is great about offering free tickets for bumps and total butts about redeeming them.

Seriously, it seems like a very obvious attempt to prevent people from getting their tickets.
