What the hell is with the RIDICULOUS used car dealers?

So i've been in the market for a used car (we've only had experience in purchasing new cars, and even that's usually a hassle)..anyway, some of the prices that dealers have been quoting are ridiculous! And to top it off, they don't even bargain a bit. This is just today's example, although its happened to me several times before:

Found this car on autotrader. Doesn't have much info (other than their ridiculous price of around $2500 over its $5500 book value), so I emailed them last night. They call me up this morning, and go "this is a great car, blah blah blah, 100k miles, blah blah." Like they were gonna say the car sucked. Anyway, I ask them what price range they REALLY were looking at (didn't want to drive 55 miles away for some ridiculous answer), and they say $8000. I'm like wtf? That's $2.5k over book value! The guy tells me "i've been selling cars for over 18 years, I know what they sell for. I can sell this car for $7000 in less than 24 hours." Ummm...yeah, ok.

Anyway, used car dealers suck SO much more than new car dealers. This same event has occured so many times to me, at almost every car dealer i've been to. Do they really expect to sell the cars at these prices? I've seen '99-'00 civic ex coupes for $9k, i'd rather spend the extra $1k to get a much nicer car...

There's snow on the ground in the picture. Has there been snow laying around in the last 24 hours?

I suspect that since he offers financing for everyone, he has to jake up the rates to cover people who default.
