What the hell is up with single ply TP in restrooms?

Seriously, why? Is it supposed to help keep toilets unclogged? Cuz I always end up using a ton of the stuff to compensated for how thin it is. I always end up with a 5 foot length of TP that I now have to wrap several times over to get something of thickness comparable to double ply. And I HATE how it's so fragile that while unrolling it it often breaks prematurely. I have to coax it out of there slowly and gingerly or else I end up with 5 completely uneven broken peices of TP that I now have to somehow layer together. It's even worse when the roll doesn't want to roll because the housing sucks and puts drag on the etire thing, leading to lots of tears no matter how careful you are. And you get those bathrooms in parks where the roll is actually on a flat horizontal metal bar that all but prevents rolling!

Apparently women's bathrooms all have double ply. WTF?

Also, the stuff usually has the texture of receipt paper. Probably costs $1 for a 10 pack of the giant rolls.

I prefer single ply, and get irritated if the bathroom as double. Even worse are the "ultra soft" brands rip under a strong look.

Around here only ghetto-tastic places use single ply.

Some of the better places actually use Renova brand toilet paper. It's like $3/roll (standard sized roll) hardly brain damage money. You can usually tell it because it comes in different colors plus it's three-ply.

I always wonder how the hell people are wiping that they need to wad up a thousand pieces of TP to avoid breakage.

I use 1-ply at home, 3 sheets folded in half... haven't ever had a problem with a finger poking through.

The best TP in the world is charmin basic. If you want double ply just fold it in half. I can wipe with 6 squares of this stuff without injury.
