What the hell is up with gmail?

I replaced my HDD lately and hence reinstalled windows, I'm trying to setup Mozilla Thunderbird again and Thunderbird keeps telling me that it can't connect to pop.gmail.com. Now I entered all the correct ports etc. So the silly mistake was that I forgot to activate pop from my gmail account on there site, funny enough, their site won't work for me. I'm not missing any plugins or anything and zonealarm isn't blocking it. Is anyone else having trouble with gmail at the moment?
 
Were you able to get to the site using Thunderbird in the past? I know some browsers don't have the security Gmail requires. You might want to try IE just to see if that works - Gmail is working fine for me.
 
Try the mozilla suite 1.73.

Check to make sure that you are set up for a (TLS) secure connection and that Incoming Ports are set for 995 and outgoing send ports are set to port 587 with TLS enabled under the Outgoing (SMTP) part of the accounts and settings menu.
