They are rear engined and originally powered by an aircooled flat-four, similar to the Beetle and older VW Microbus. I think they have a very beautiful design.

I'm sure a Subaru 2L turbo flat-four or Porsche flat-six could be transplanted in there....causing it to lift its front wheels up in anger. 🙂
