I was driving and I heard some loose metal and then all of a sudden it was like "cling cling cling" as it rolled down the street after me. I drive a 98 zx2 manual.


Car works and everything... anything come to mind?

Reminds me I was driving the 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD, and directly after I shifted into fourth I heard "CLANK POW!" And could have sworn I saw something fly off. I think it was the lower timing belt cover, but I'm pretty sure i never had one.

It looks like a sprocket for a chain. Might've picked up some road debris, or that'd be half of a double chain assembly (meaning the other half is soon to follow)

Can you add something to the picture for a size reference? It's hard to tell where it's from unless we know the size (we already determined is a sprocket gear).

that doesnt look like a bike chain ring, it doesnt have the standard 4 or 5 bolt pattern and the teeth on it are too big and flat on the top

It's not a chain gear. The teeth are too small.

But yeah, we really need a size reference. Stick a quarter somewhere in the frame or something.

Maybe a window motor gear?

It could be part of an ABS speed sensor, but whatever it is , it's probably not from your car. You probably just kicked it up with your tire.

I believe its a transmission gear. Not yours of course. It looks to old and dry.

If I was to take a guess I would say it one of the rear ABS sensor rings.

Do you have a yellow/amber ABS light on now?
