i've finally managed to "stun" one of these bugs so that i could take a decent close up pic.

[i know the pics are large (1600*1200) but i dont have acdsee installed or similar app to resize...]

what bug is this? ive seen several over the course of the season. and ive also seen these tiny tiny (about several millimeter) narrow white critters (possible larvae stage of this larger bug?). any ideas what this is and what i can do about them?

that looks like it would be a great fishing lure!!!

kinda looks like a feathery, and larger verision on a silver fish..

where do you live?

bronx, new york.
been in here less than a year. my apt. is on the 3rd floor and my buildings' garden is right below. also the area is grassy since i live around a reservoir and park

yepper, house centipedes. I once had a centipede about as long as my finger invade the bathroom. BTW, even if you knock off some of it's legs, they keep twitching. Some freaky weird shat bugs

Paging Lirion? 😀

He probably knows what it is and has super detailed pictures of it in its natural habitat.

Yeah.

I just killed one yesterday and tossed its leg twitching ass into the toilet.

its natural habitat should be under my Skechers

Seen some of these in the basement of the house my wife and I bought this past spring. Our cat goes nuts with them (or most other bugs), and that suits me fine. They creep me out, but so do spiders. =P

haha...i agree. but the first google hit on house centipede says its beneficial by eating other bugs. i usually dont kill spiders but this is damn scary/ugly

We get those in our basement all the time. I kill about 1 per week. Not sure where exactly they all come from.

I hate those little bastards! When I was little I was scared of them because people used to tell me they would crawl into your ears at night... kinda like that Star Trek movie.

I dont care if it eats other bugs, imagine sleeping at night while things like that are crawling around your room. Gives me the creeps. Spiders on the other hand, I leave alone, they're cool. Especially wolf spiders

While we're on it, wtf is this leaf monster that attacked me as I left my apartment the other day. Its like one of those tiny leaf bugs, but steroid injected. This was taken at night with the beam being from a 3d Maglight. Iono how big it is, but it seems as big as my palm.

EDIT: It was on my window screen. Those white things in the background are my 3.5 inch blinds.
