Considering what you do for a living you must be a smart man, why don't you use that god given ability (and google) and find out for yourself?

I view the new Hemi as marketing. Gimme an oldie ANY DAY! :D
Course, that may change, or may have already changed, who knows. Not I.

While yes, it does appear to be a marketing gimmick today, it wasn't back in the late-60s / early-70s when you could get a 400+ H.P. Dodge musclecar with a 426 C.I. hemi in it.

Way back when, mostly in the sixties, you could order a muscle car with a hemi in it. Very few did, due to the high cost. The horsepower ratings listed on them were, well, VERY conservative. Or maybe they just lied in order to sell them without the insurance companies going nuts.

They really hauled ass, and were very rare. For years guys that drive muscle cars from that era have been asked, "that thing got a hemi?"

No doubt it helps market them to us baby boomers. Many of us have dreamed of owning a hemi... I have. :)

Not much, other than nostalgia.

Toyota should redesign one of their V8s to use hemispherical combustion chambers and start advertising their hemi engines. :p

i think the story is that the hemis were powerful, but the emissions were horrible and they had to go. now they finally can pass emissions with our better design capabilities

I can't recall reading anything about that, but you may be right. After the first energy crisis, the days of the muscle car were pretty much over.

The hemis mission was to win races, they were never much interested in selling them to the public. Most of Richard Petty's wins came about because of the hemi.

Drag racers used them as well, with great success.

That hemi is only 348 cid. That is such a far cry from a 426 converted to fuel injection. Oh, and it adds a mere $15,000 onto the price tag!:Q:(:|

If HEMI engines have all these advantages, why aren't all engines using hemispherical heads? It's because there are even better configurations available today.

Pure marketing today... Going after people who fondly recall Hemis from the 60's.
