What the hell is processor stepping? (E3, C0...etc)

The stepping represents the building of mask fracture revision using Alphanumerics to identify it. Example: If AMD enhanced the memory controller to support DDR400 rather than the DDR333, then that memory controller update will be noterized with CG, Rather than the previous stepping of c0(zero). The steppings have various advancements to it, such as lower TDP, Voltage, Cahce alogrithim enhancements. Fabrication merits is basically what it comes down to. Northbridges, or Memory Controller Hubs go thru the exact same process. Nforce,SiS,VIA,ULi, A0, B0,c0(zero) stepping. Masking revisions.

I could be wrong.
