What the hell is my suit size?

I'm fat. I'll be up front and no bs about that, so it's my fault not the suit sizing industry. But I'd really prefer shopping online to save cash and 2 different sizes so far that should fit based on everything I'm reading about sizing are still too tight in the belly area to fit.

I'll be honest in that I have a physique that's seth rogan meets the penguin, meaning stocky with fine ass legs and strong, thin person arms but a huge ass belly. I wear my pants until my belly (hank hill style, not homer simpson) but my waist is a rutondo 52. Measuring for my chest my suit size was 48r, which is way too tight for my belly, and 52s are too tight too. Do I have to go up to 60 or should I try incremental sizes? I guess I can order a bunch and return, but it's kinda gross and unfair to people

Not everything can or should be bought online. Go to Macy's or wherever and try on a bunch of suits. They'll measure you and help find something that somewhat fits. I say somewhat because it'll probably need tailoring to get a better fit, if you are as oddly shaped as you say.

The wisdom of the crowd wins - any savings are getting wiped out by the returns annoyance, to macys I go.

I think TridenT went through some trouble buying a suit online. It was an absolutely perfect fit except the arms weren't the correct length, the jacket was a bit too long, and the fit just plain sucked. Or something like that. It's a fun thread to read if you can find it.

Good call.

I went to Nordstroms recently for a jacket and slacks to wear to a wedding and they custom tailored it for me. Fits perfect and looks fantastic. Couldn't be happier with the purchase.

If you are an odd shape the last thing you want to do is shop online for a standard suit size

You're in luck. The vast majority of Americans are fat so most stores stock a huge helping of suits for fat people. Some even skip normal person suit sizes because there are so many fatties.

Suits aren't supposed to fit off the rack. They're meant to be tailored. It's a bad idea to buy one without having it tailored. Buy one at a local store, even if it's more expensive.

For stuff like that it's probably best to have it custom made.

For me, whenever I buy jeans or pants of any kind they are always too long, so I end up getting them hemmed. For something more involved like a suit it's probably best to just have it custom made from the get go.
