What the hell is lye???

Just read an email from a friend, said he was in hospital due to a chemical burn when he was messing around with "Lye"...

What the hell is lye? :frown:

It's a very basic chemical that eats through plant and animal matter. It's a main ingredient in drain cleaner because it eats through organic stuff like hair.

Fight Club reccomends that you wash lye off yourself using some nice clean water!

You don't remember the scene in the kitchen where Tyler plants a big, wet kiss on Jack's hand and then pins it down and pours lye on it? It's followed by screaming, a rant, and then Tyler flicks the cap off a gallon bottle of vinegar... it's pretty cool.

Where did your friend get lye, and what was he trying to do as he was "playing" with it??
