Every night at this time I get numerous calls and the majority of them are from AOL.

They say I am the one calling them and I am telling them that they are the ones calling me.

Then tonight

T-mobile customer service calls me acts like I just called them "Tmobile how may I help you".

I got to thinking, what if someone is three-waying me to these people messing with me.

I asked the tmobile lady if she could repeat the number that called her. She said she could not, but she could try and went to get her supervisor and the minute she did that the line went dead.

But how could someone do this:

Call 1: AOL customer service, hello?
Beep
Call 2: No voice, hello?
Beep
Call 3: no voice, hello?

How could they call me 3 separate times and have me on hold with them on 3 lines?

What the hell is going on?

yeah, google the phone numbers on the caller id. or just answer the phone with an airhorn blast into the mouthpiece.

All calls are blocked.

I know it is AOL. I get some Indian guy with an accent and I've messed with him a few times, but now it is getting annoying. Sometimes I get an Indian woman. I also hear the talking/music when AOL puts you on hold.

T-Mobile was two different people. Very professional. They had no idea what I was talking about. The one girl who I told my situation to was interested but either someone cut the line (three-way theory) or she hung up when she put me on "hold". I told her my number and she said no that is not the number that called, but she could not release the number that called to me.

I also got a call that said "To leave a message press 2"

..

Any ideas?

Can you view your incoming call log online? I can with my Verizon serivce, so I hope you can, too.

Call your phone service provider and ask them OMGWTF!!!!oNe!!1?

hehe we had a fun little trick in an office I used to work in. you could call one guy on the internal extension, then conf. call another using the external number. hang up and they would both be on the line. "Hello?" "Hello??" "you called me!" "no, you called me!" hilarity.

My first thought on looking at his picture is... "that guy looks really geeky, and so does his room" and then my second was "hey, he looks almost exactly like me but with long hair.. and he has the same 2 computer setup and desk that I do"

Just lest ye not accidentally judge yourself and find yourself to be a geek.

If T-Mobile calls you back, ask immediately to talk to a supervisor (if you get a non-outsourced call center, they're called coaches) and ask them not to put you on hold while they get them.

call them and say you have a harassment claim pending through the police and you would like them to release the number for the investigating detective.

i actually had a similar incident, and sprint (my provider) told me that the only way they can release the telephone number is if i had filed a police report (i did). ultimately, i called sprint again and apparently i got someone who was not in tune with the policies and procedures of the place -- he gave me the calling number right away and i didn't even have to mention that i had a police report filed. (i never pursued it though.)

actually, better yet, do that when "they call you" -- maybe AOL can give you the information readily, unlike t-mobile (since they're not under any real obligation to disguise the telephone number from you since they're not your phone provider). in any event, when you get that call, mention the pending police action and if the three-way-calling theory is true, it may scare your little friend off.

Phone calls? Anonymous? Those don't exactly belong in the same sentence together. It could be a complete PITA to have done, but it *is* possible to trace just about any type of phone call out there - but you do sometimes have to be looking for something in the future, not just looking at history. <edit2> You'll need your service provider to do this for you, or at the very least, cooperate with you in doing this.</edit2>

Oh, and it's extremely easy to bridge two or more calls, as you were mentioning, especially in PBX's and corporate phone systems. I suppose that using 3-way calling on your POTS (plain old telephone service) would achieve a similar result, though it wouldn't be quite as transparent as most corporate solutions could provide.

Also, I've seen errors in dialplans and call routing tables that allow calls such as what you are describing to happen - numbers be sent to the wrong place in the string (like transposing characters, except a bit more advanced), or they could just be forwarded to the wrong trunk.... though this is *EXTREMELY* unlikely - the chance of this being a programmatical error, while possible, is almost zero percent.

technically, you cannot. you must call your provider and get the information from them.

AOL has caller ID too; they should know who originated the call.
