What the hell is a Rollo?

Rollo was engaged in viral marketing for nVidia and was active on these forums. Essentially he was paid by nVidia to advertise on these boards.
For the record, if Nvidia ever wanted to send me a free 8800 Ultra, I would have no shame in advertising for them.
As stated, Rollo was being paid by nvidia for viral marketing. However, it went beyond simple marketing to denial or downplay of any problems with nvidia products, and intentional bashing of the competition. Many forum users here actually respected Rollo (I was definitely not one of them) until the truth about his involvement with nvidia was revealed.
There are a lot of people that turn this hobby of ours into religion, and those that worship nvidia treated Rollo's posts as the scripture.

If he's posting differently, then it doesn't really matter because then he would no longer be the "Rollo" that people hated.

I'm no different than every AMD fanboy populating every R600 thread on this board defending an inferior GPU to the bitter end.
I just happen to lean the other way. I know this board is the new Rage3D and people who like Nvidia are considered heretics, but whatever.
Well I skimmed through that thread. I laughed when he said "And you're welcome!" in his final post because I've seen others post that comment lately as a part of a joke. I don't think anywhere it was proven that he was part of some marketing group etc, though I suppose that wasn't possible.
Also I found it amusing to read people in that thread say that the level of comments on the AT forums have gone down lately. That was two years ago, and people still say that. Was he actually banned, or did he leave on his own? In the end I think he got a rough deal. I mean he was an obvious fanboy, but isn't that true for so many others? I am not attacking anyone, but just saying. I wasn't around to see him in his heyday, but from the reaction of everyone else I take it he was really an adverse effect. It was all pretty sad though. I mean this is an anonymous forum after all, and I could sense that he was quite upset by the whole thing.
Oh and it is hilarious that that thread was started by appoin.
When I first started posting here I said a harsh thing or two to yacoub and appoin. I guess I was taking things about too seriously.
However those two and matt2 have come to by my favorite posters. They amuse me to no end.
A lot of the posters from that thread appeared to be regulars, and now have seemed to disappeared.

OP, you obviously weren't here when Rollo was, but long before he was found to be AEG, he was trolling infestation on these forums.
Every thread he made had a purpose, usually pointing out ATi issues or benefits w/ nV, while conveniently ignoring the other side of the picture.
He also was very knowledgeable, which is the disturbing part, because a lot of n00bies believed his FUD.
Basically, where Rollo was, there was a flamewar to be found, since causing controversy (often over stupid little things) seemed to be something he loved.
I also had the pleasure of being personally attacked in his posts, something the mods didn't seem to care about.

But yes I registered last year but only started reading/posting a few months ago. Something I noticed was Rollo was mentioned every other thread... a lot more than Anand himself.
I suppose that's what made him a problem. People were probably expecting to get earnest views from him, not realizing he was biased. Still I find it odd that he left.
