i know how to overclock it's adjusting the fsb and multipier until you reach the maximum stable performance of a pc. but what does that pencil trick mean.

The L1 bridges on the Duron and Tbird come disconnected (most of the time). You use the pencil to retrace the line, which unlocks them so you can set the multiplier, if you have a board that supports it.

Heh.. It's when you connect the L1 bridges of a Duron or a T-Bird using a pencil. But, if you're able to adjust the multiplier, then the L1 bridges are already connected and you don't even need to bother with the pencil trick.
