The registry is hosed: Check the below sites

Spam F8 at boot until the windows boot menu comes up, and try Last Known Good. That copies at least large chunks of the registry in from the last successful boot.

To theslickvik,

I assume your thanks is due to getting your registry back--but losing a hunk of registry could be due to random errors--like a failing hard drive or even a slight electrical glitch----but it also could be due to a virus---which spybot and ad-aware are not designed to protect you from---they do spyware------anti-virus apps do the more dangerous trojans and viruses----------but in terms of good FREE av apps---try avast or avg----or you could do some free on line scans at Kaspersky, trend micro, McAfee, or Panda. And I do hope you also have a firewall.------While spybot and ad-aware are fine programs--and I have them on my computers---those two programs overlap somewhat--and only protect you from a small fraction of total threats.----you need other non-spyware type applications to have even a modicum of total computer security.

I hope you got it back and running. But as was posted above it may have been a power glitch or it could be the first signs of failing drive memory etc... Virus' etc... Keep a good back-up of you data.
