it's not as well laid out as a Google site, but what's wrong with it? The graphics are very polished.

Both look like crap, thanks for the reminder why I don't use this site OP.

If you are going to make a professional website for the love of god take an interface design class. Yahoo breaks about 5-10 core rules on both the old and the new. The level of complexity makes me wanna cry.

who cares, Yahoo is still #1 in web traffic. they can do whatever they want until they lose the spot.

Hmm...I like the new look. Never really had a problem with the old one. Go look at ESPN.com if you want to see a f'ed up site that is way to cluttered.

You know what?
I actually like some of the older versions better.
Less cluttered.
Easier to find the important stuff.

My only beef with most websites is they look like they were designed for use at 800x600. Heck, some of them even have that little notice on the bottom "Best Viewed At 800 by 600 pixels" or something similar.
It seems to me that most users are running at least 1024x768 and the average is porbably closer to 1280x1024.

I really wish web designers would take advantage of this.

I think most web users fall into the 800x600 or 1024x768 range. 1280x1024 isn't as common as you would like to think.

The problem is, there are still alot of people who use 800x600. Yes, I realise ALOT of people use a resolution larger, but for major corperations to disregard a large segment of their possible viewers is like trying to commit suicide.

When you take a webmaster class, they will tell you to design websites for 800x600 resolutions. If you make anything that will not be viewed properly at that res, you lose points. At least that's the way it was about 2 years ago when I took my webmaster class.

According to this still about 12% of browsers still use icky 800x600

In my interface design class we were told to either scale (use percents instead of absolutes, which can cause problems), or choose 800x600 or 1024x768. The resoning is that it is MUCH more annoying to have to horizontal scroll then it is for the website to be a little small.

WOW!
I made a relatively uninteresting post and got three responses immediately.
Every year this place amazes me.

How come when I say something crazy in P&N everyone just ignores me?

What?

:p

Yahoo Finance's message boards really suck now. They are forcing the new design on you, but you can change to the original design if you choose. I don't like the new views at all.
