Ordered something from Newegg, arrived today, for some reason they drop it off by my side door and not the front, and the package has already been opened! It's a normal brown cardboard box, with the top flap open, and part of the top flap torn off.

I have to say that is the first I have ever received a package in such a condition.

Looks like it. Only one blister pack, inside a bag, in lots of peanuts. Should be all...

But still, damn, why would someone open it?

Good question. Maybe it somehow raised a flag with FedEx's security and they needed to inspect it? Even so, you should have been warned and told about the procedure. At any rate, I'd call NewEgg and let them know. If you start yanking at FedEx, you might not receive future packages at all! :p

I had an RMA ASUS board sent back to me. Upon arrival you could tell the package was ripped open and then on top of that they just put the motherboard back into the box without any protection. Everything was smashed to smitherines.

That's how this was. The package was right on top with all the peanuts below it. So someone opened it, took it out, and just put it back in on top.

But at least it wasn't damaged.

wierd, FedEx has usually been good. UPS on the other hand... seems to enjoy delivering packages to my door step by dropping them straight out of the plane :D

good to hear it wasn't damaged though.

Maybe they thought it was damaged and opened it up to check?

Quite possibly. I'm not going to complain to anyone since the product is fine, just makes me a bit leary.

Either way, the product is that Logitech mic I made another thread about, and it fvcking owns. Never had such a good PC mic.

Some packages open during the "handling" process. I used to work at UPS unloading trailers, boxes are stepped on, tossed, thrown, etc as fast as one can possibly work. Ive seen Dell servers dropped and thrown as well as LCDs stepped on.

That just makes me feel so good, especially when I am expecting a package from UPS today...

Dude, I don't know what hub or center you worked but if ANYONE was throwing and steping on packages in my hub I would fire them straight out. (well, being an engineer I can't actually fire them but I do know and have an understanding with all the managers). I have yelled at more than one loader, unloader, pre-loader, etc... who was throwing around packages. Dropping or tossing a small-box or envelope is one thing, but large, heavy boxes better not be treated that way.

As for opening the package, we do that for a number of reasons. If the box is damages before it gets to the hub, Hazmat inspections, bad label, etc... but usually the box is reassembled or if torn, we replace it. We have stacks of every size box imaginable that we use for "rewrapping".

I have never received a beat up package from UPS or FedEx so I guess I have been lucky, at least he delivered it to the right house (long story...)

My friend works at UPS in Livonia, MI. He says stuff gets smashed all night long. If something is really heavy they get pissed and toss it. He has thrown monitor boxes on the corner of the box and heard it shattered. :Q

Last ups package I got had foot prints all over it.

Dude, your guys hubs suck and your management needs serious changing. In WA district we are very strict about package handling. It's the whole idea that packages are our bread and butter so we should probably treat them correctly.
