Ratio of games played by team vs. games projected to play as determined by pre-tournament seeding (with 1.00 being average)

This is from ESPN:Insider, referring to a "Score" they've assigned each team in the tourney.

Does anybody understand what the are comaparing? I can't grasp it..

I understand what they're saying, but it seems like a useless statistic. I swear they just sit around and think of weird-ass ways to manipulate the numbers to make themselves feel more intelligent.

All they're saying is that:

# of games played : # of games projected to play = 1

So in effect each team should play as many games as they are supposed to.

== USELESS STATISTIC

So, this is in relationship to past appearances in the tourney?

It's kind of like an "experience" rating. A higher number is better. The higher the number, the more games they've played in relation to how many they'll have to play.

Edit: If it's within the tourney, then it tells how far through each team is.
