What the hell? Does anybody pay this type of deductions?

Well, I just got my first direct deposit from TAing at my university. I looked at the deductions summary and it says I have these deductions:

State Withhold Taxes, IL: Ok, everybody pays this.
FICA - Medicare: Once again, no surprise.
Old Age Survival Disability Insurance: WTF?? What is this? I've never seen this type of deduction before.

Anybody know what's up?

its part of social security , maybe the just call it out seperate now so you know how the govt. is doing you

OASDI = Social Security, which is a 6.2% tax on the employee.
Medicare tax is 1.45% on the employee.
