Trailer...

Looks rather ... uninspired? MMORTS with persistent world...?? Graphical genre is somewhat cartoony???

It's like Farmville raped Age of Empires and this is what we get. :hmm:

1/7/2011 Edit:
My email box has something "special" in it this morning. Nice early way to start the new year it looks like, for whatever it's worth. Can't say anything more since there's a NDA attached.

Even the trailer sucked ass. The commentator sounds like they just grabbed someone off the street and said "Here, read this out loud."

This looks like complete cartoony, gimmicky crap.

I’d pay a king’s ransom to have the original Age of Empires refreshed with newer graphics and AI - nothing more. That game was spectacular and doesn’t need to be watered down with other “improvements”.

Keep the general disgust going, this thread should provide some decent entertainment for me. Too bad this didn't hit back to back with some sort of trailer of that new dev studio picking up DNF. We could have had a duet of fail.

meh I don't mind the graphics but I don't really care for the style of the trailer at all.

on the one hand, Ensemble Studios should be good at rts gameplay...but on the other hand...

this is wtf AoE fans have been waiting for over 10 years???

they're making another game, but that's probably some xbox game that will fall on its face too.

What is wrong with making a legit AoE 4 game set in the ancient world?

Eh, I think I'll pass.

Persistent world? Sorry, but I don't have time to babysit the game 24/7. And the artwork is a bit too cartoony for my liking.

When I was playing Age of Empires I imagined something like this... but it looked a hell of a lot better in my imagination.

The persistent world idea was attempted many years ago with Command & Conquer 2 (Tiberian Sun) and its World Domination online mode, it was fun for a very, very short period, then it failed (mostly due to the obvious unequal popularity between the NOD and the GDI, creating obvious advantages for one side or another). Now of course mentalities have changed and the generation whose going to play that one might also be a new one, perhaps it will work, but I have my doubts.

And... well, that doesn't feel like an Age of Empires game at first glance.

When I was playing AoE, I would imagine a persistent world and how sweet it would be. This has missed the mark...

Ensemble Studios was killed off by Microsoft a few years back, right at the release of Halo Wars. I'm not sure what studio they are using for this.
