It's been a while since I used mIRC. But I tried it tonight and I couldn't connect to any servers, EFNet nor DalNet. I suspect it's because they've got my isp (mediaone) on autokill or kline. Is this correct? If so, is there any way around it?
Any help would be appreciated.

I can't get to efnet if I am using a proxy server. I don't know if that is your setup. What specific error does it give you?

IRC servers (and no, mIRC does not comprise all of IRC) often require an ident response. Means you need to find an ident daemon or run the one that's in your client already. Once that's done, you should be able to connect just fine, if that's the only error message you're receiving.

I have Ident Server enabled and have tried using EYEdent-D (a ident protocol daemon suggested by dalnet). But still no success.
Is this banning thing something recent? Because last time I used IRC (maybe 1-2 months ago) I had no problem. Can you email them and say "Can you un-ban my specific IP address?"

I'm on a network running ICS/win98SE box. I can get on efNet, but it's difficult, most servers reject. Be patient and try other servers maybe.

Efnet sort of sucks anyway, try irc.undernet.org for a better irc network with less splits and lags...

MediaOne is banned from probably 95% of Efnet servers by now... too many 12yr old "hackers" on there and EfNet operators are getting wise and banning entier netowrks (like @home, mediaone etc etc)

I'm on DSL, and the only Efnet servers I can get on are EU servers... I jsut hit random, and eventually I find an open one.

Efnet is dying...
