LONG STORY:

In college I got a cell phone will Alltel. I used it for about a year. Being a college student, I moved around a lot. During one of the moves, I informed Alltel 4 times of the move. Twice in writing on the back of a bill and twice over the phone. Needless to say they never got my address information fixed so I called and got a little ugly with the person and told them to cancel my account. I sent in the money for the "last" bill.

I never heard another word from them. Two years ago, I checked my credit report and I saw Alltel had the nerve to put my account into collection for $69. It royally pissed me off and I took the stance that they sure as hell weren't getting a penny from me.

Since this is the ONLY blemish on my credit report, I decided that it had to be cleared up. I got a credit report today from equifax to find out the collection agency. I looked up there number and I f'ing swear I am getting fed up.

No matter who I talk to, they say they don't handle the Alltel account in their branch. They all give me the same number for the branch that handles the Alltel account. I call that number and they say that they don't handle the Alltel account. I run in circles. I just want to give them the damn money to get this out of collection.

What the hell am I supposed to do in this situation. I can't talk to anyone that handles the Alltel account so I can't pay the damn money.

If anyone lives in Marietta, GA and wants to go and kick the crap out of these people be my guest.

Since no one handles it, challenge it with the credit reporting agencies to have it removed. They shouldn't respond to the credit reporting agencies if they have no one that handles Altell.

"DMS closes out private collection agencies under previous contract. As of January 31, 2003, Debt Management Services performed the operational close-out of seven agencies from the 1997-2001 debt collection contract. Private collection service was ended with the following contractors:

Aman Collection Service, Inc.
GC Services Limited Partnership
National Asset Management
Nationwide Credit, Inc.
NCO Financial Systems, Inc.
OSI Collection Services
Van Ru Credit Corporation

The existing debts maintained by these contractors were returned to the Treasury and referred to Cross-Servicing. Four contractors still remain in operation from the previous contract. Allied Interstate, Inc., Diversified Collection Services, Inc., and Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson, LLP continue to work accounts under the previous contract and work on the current contract as well. Unger and Associates, Inc. remains open at the present time, but its operations will be phased out in upcoming months. "

Nationwide Credit Inc. is the collection company for this. This happened back in 1999 and the last activity was 1/2001. I wonder what all that means.

I wonder if I will luck out because Nationwide has been phased out and I am disputing Nationwide on it.

sue them (first, find a reason for doing so).

It is just $69. I just want to get it done with. I got turned down for a credit card because I had a "SERIOUS" deliquency.

Keep calling around or if you'd like my help I can call for you (will need your personal details though).

Or follow the dispute process and dispute the charge with all 3 credit bureau's (EquiFax, TransUnion and Experian).

I believe the credit bureau's have 30 days to respond to the credit dispute, if they don't, it's taken off your credit.

Do everything IN WRITING and send it via USPS Certified mail.

They only reported it to Equifax so I don't have to dispute on the others. I guess I will see what happens with the dispute I launched using Equifax. Thanks for the advice.

I've had a somewhat similiar issue.

I have one derogatory mark reporting on one credit bureau but not the other two, weird.

I've run into only one agency having it on my report as well.
