What the heck's the deal with Mobile XPs and FSB Limits?

What the heck's the deal with Mobile XPs not doing above 200mhz FSB? Which ones does this apply to? I didn't think there were limits on the FSB on any CPU since the FSB is on the motherboard. I thought all you need is the right RAM to run it synchronously with.

So for instance I'm getting a DFI that does 250FSB and PC3000 BH5 that does 250mhz, and on my desktop XP2400+ I'm figuring I can achieve 250FSB simply by lowering the multiplier enough that multiplier X FSB = 2.4ghz, which is its maximum overclocking potential.

Can anyone clarify what the deal is with FSB and its limits with mobile and desktop XPs?

There is no limit. I've read plenty of posts from people running their XP Mobile cpus faster than 200mhz fsb.

EDIT: I was able to get mine to run at 205fsb, but it wouldn't work any faster. I think it's due to my motherboard.

Thanks for the clarification. This will do nicely with my 250FSB DFI and my 250mhz @ 11-2-2-2 CAS2 1T 512MB RAM dual channel kit.

as long as you have ram that can do 250 mhz 1:1 at 2-2-2-11 (bh-5's)

you need to make sure you have to the voltage to get their.

i don't knw aobut too many people with bh-5's that can do 250 1:1 w/o more than 3.3 vdimm volts.

you may need to do a vdimm mod to your board to get over 3.3 volts.

i've run 250 mhz on my dfi infinity with my bh-5's but i needed 3.4 volts so i had to vmod it.

the bartons have issues with FSB with most motherboards, you may be able to break 200 but not by much on most boards. DFIs seem to be the only good FSB overclockers. if you want FSB DFI motherboards are what you want.

I can get mine up to 217 FSB, but no further. It's my motherboard, that I know.

As I noted I have already bought the requisite hardware from people on these forums - DFI board that does 250, and BH5 RAM that does 250 at 3.3v, according to the traders (with impeccable heat) I'm buying from.

fsb barriers for xp mobiles are usually for nf7-s mtherboards, and can be remedied with a L12 mod.
