What the heck: UD asked me to enter username/pw

Kenazo

Lifer
I've been a proud supporter of UD, but now it's asking me on my home computer to enter my username and password, so I can only assume the same is going to be happening on all my other clients. Dammit UD, make something that works properly if you want to have ppl volunteer their time!!!

Sorry to hear about the troubles at UD. I was wondering why Find-A-Drug seemed to be getting a lot of new teams and members from over there lately.
I Hope they get things straighten out soon .
🙂

Well, Kenazo, I think I have had my fill (for now) with UD.

Over @ grid.org forums there is very little "official" support. (One employee gives a little info)
From what I can see it looks like within the next few months they will be doing a major upgrade of equipment and software, so this problem will probably re-occur.

Looks like it is time to start shopping for a nother DC project for the time being.

🙁

I've religiously installed UD on every new build I make (I make probably 20-30 computers a year) but no more! DAMMIT, I'm mad. I was just about to break the top 10 on our team too... 🙁

So, what's the recommended team now? I need a client that can be installed as a service and never needs any input from the user, since most of these computers I never see again.

Find A Drug sound like the perfect project for you
The newest version has a service install and you can run it without a icon showing in the task bar. IF you set it to connect when online it will upload and download work without any input needed plus if it runs out of download work to process it will create it's own work until the next time it connects to the net.

Does FaD autoupdate when new clients come out? and will I need to enter usernames and pw's when it does?

If I will for sure not have to ever type in a password after the initial instal, I'm sold. 🙂

Just set it up on my home computer. That's an easy install. 🙂

It will only autoupdate if you set it to recieve betas otherwise it will stay the same version forever and It has never asked me for any input after installing and setting it up the first time.
There are many cases of remotes continuing to return work years after being installed.

Bty I personally don't set my machines to recieve betas as I don't like running beta software. After I'm sure it is working alright then I set it to recieve the betas
