What do you want your computer to do that it doesn't do right now? Or doesn't do well.

Your PC is already powerful, if you ask me. I wouldn't bother upgrading the CPU/mobo until AMD dual core prices come down to where you can afford them. Your video card (effectively 9800XT) is OK for any game out right now. Since you're on a limited budged I'd suggest waiting until at least October when ATI releases cards based on R520. Then the 7800 series nVidia cards will probably come down closer to your price range. That would be a better use of your money rather than spending it on old technology (nVidea 6800, ATI X850 series). Use the money to buy a set of surround sound speakers if you haven't already. If you already have speakers then use it to take your girlfriend for a night out. She'll thank you for it later ;)

If you want more performance, those X800XT's are a damn good deal, and will offer a decent upgrade (provided you have a decent display). You might get almost half the price back selling the 9800pro also.

It depends how soon you'll have more money. If you can save up about $500 or more the next month, and sell your old stuff, you should have enough for a new s939 system and a good pcie video card, especially if you get a Venice 3000 and OC it. If you're only gonna have the $300 for a while then just get a new video card - those x800xt refurb deals from Ati look nice, and will give you a big boost in modern games.

I would look into that X800XT or check out prices on the 6800GT. Either card would be a nice upgrade and will meet your budget. Another option would to be sit tight for a few months and see how the new mid range cards stack up performance/pricewise. I imagine that the next gen midrange will perform about like an X800XT or a 6800GT, and might be less expensive.

well the only thing about s939 is when you read AMD's roadamp the new socket M2 is next not too far off either but it is not safe to just sit around and wait all the time either so i dont know.

I think that he wants more FPS in FEAR?

I would say getting a X800XT or better would be the way to go, I wouldn't bother with XL because on the right day you can get an XT which should provide an extra 10%+ across the board.... That will be a really nice upgrade for you. The 9800 Pro was a great card, but it really is humbled by this generations games.
