i turned on my computer today, and i got an overclocking failed message. im like, ok, my overclock is prime stable for 18 hours, why am i getting this message. the only two options were, set bios defaults, and enter bios. so i entered the bios, and just pressed escape, and exited right out. windows booted up, and everything seemed fine. i decided to look at cpu-z, and this first thing in noticed, was that my cpu speed was at stock. then, i looked up and i saw that my vcore was at 1.79v!!! on a winchester! i shut down as fast as i could, and went into the bios. everything was just how i had set it. 10x270, 1.55v. i exited the bios, and went back into windows, and everything was fine? wtf? was my motherboard getting payback for me just exiting the bios like that?

Yes, damage could have been done, but not totally severe. your cpu will probably have its life shortened by a little, thats all

Im, saying for 3 minitues, no immediate damage proably was done, just shortened its life. You can try prime and see if there are any problems

You aren't running ASUS AI Booster or anything like that right? Leave things at stock and see if it still does this. My P4P800-e Deluxe fluctuates the vCore just a bit (by like +/- .06) with AI booster doing it's thing (I was messing around with auto overclock once and promptly found out how much that sucks :p)
