What The Heck Is Wrong With My LCD Monitor ( See Attached Video)

Three weeks ago I purchased a Samsung SyncMaster 245BW 24" LCD monitor. It worked fine the first 2 weeks with no problems. However, for the past week I keep getting flashing blue lines on the screen. At one point, there were over 40 horizontal and 20 vertical blue lines appearing on the screen at the same time. The only way to get rid of it is to power off and on.

See attached video:

Flashing Blue Lines

You'll see that I pan in on my 71" DLP that's getting a duplicate feed from my PC there are no blue lines. I also connected a crappy 17" CRT and it did not show these lines.

So I called up Samsung tech support and they said it was a driver problem. The guy didn't even ask me what video card I had. Just said my driver was out of date.

Video card is:

XFX GeForce 8600GT nVidia 8600GT Chipset (540Mhz) 256MB (1.4Ghz) GDDR3 Dual DVI PCI-Express Graphics Card

Based on the video, can a driver cause the flashing blue lines or is the tech guy I spoke to blowing smoke.

Disconnect the LCD from the computer. Do you still get the flashing lines on the screen with the LCD turned on but not attached to a computer?

If possible, connect the LCD to another computer for testing. If you get the flashing lines while connected to another computer - or not connected to anything - then it's definitely a problem with the screen itself.

You should also try the newest version of the Nvidia drivers just so that you can tell Samsung that you did when you call them back to repair/replace the screen. ;)

I just saw this on my 245BW monitor yesterday. The screen seemed to be working just fine until I played an HD video and during playback blue lines started flickering on the screen. Then after I stopped the video I could still see glitches on the screen (wierd "static" looking areas where the blue lines were). But when I turned the monitor off and back on the glitches were gone.

I currently have a 7900GTO, Windows Vista Ultimate running the latest nVidia drivers. Ill try hooking it up to another PC to see if the problem reoccurs. Whats funny is it does go away after turning the monitor off and on. Makes me believe its a problem with the monitor and not the driver/vidcard. I'm going to call Samsung and see what they have to say. Luckily I bought the monitor at Costco and they have a great return policy. :)

Let me know what Samsung says. I just bought this thing as part of a new build. Sadly, I'm having all kinds of annoying video related issues. My 8800GT wouldn't output a digital DVI signal so I already had to RMA it. In the meantime I'm using a cheap-o 8400GS as a stand-in until the replacement 8800GT gets back. I'm going to be pissed if I have to RMA the monitor too.
