What the heck is this Intel Application Accelerator?

I was just wondering if this IAA is some kind of gimmick or will it be beneficial for me to install? I mean doesn't XP already try to optimize where and how the applications are stored?

the major thing that the program does is installs ide drivers for certain intel chipsets, the ones that come with windows work completely fine, but these are more optimized and therefore you get a speed boost..

I'm interested in this question too. Is the Intel Application Accelerator better than using native Windows XP drivers? Is it really faster in some applications? Is there any downside?

It's Intel's version of VIA 4in1 drivers, except it's 1in1 and only for IDE controllers. I've heard of people having problems with them and those who have no problems with them don't usually notice any difference. Try them if you want, but if strange things start happening, go back to the prvious drivers.
