What the heck is going on at Activision?

The suit alleges that during the build up that led to the firing of West and Zampella, Activision forced Infinity Ward employees to submit to secret interrogations and told the employees not to tell anyone about them. The publisher also brought in security personnel to man the office exits, according to the suit.

When a group of employees met with CFO Thomas Tippl in April to demand the bonus, according to the suit, Tippl responded "Get over it."

I sincerely hope Activision gets burned big, seems like they're drunk on greed and need to be taken a peg or two.

kotick is evil is what is going on

This.

While I'm sure Kotick is goof for profits, that's not all that makes up a good businessman. There's something important about having passion for what you work in... it's what always seems to separate the mediocre game companies from the greats.

Bobby Kotick.

"The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games."

From what I gather with the Infinity Ward dispute, they wanted to force the team to make another CoD MW game with a pay subscription model, the team claimed their contract said they could work on a new IP and possibly were already devoting resources to a new game, Activision got pissed and threw them out.

I'd be skeptical of this. Half the purpose of the text in these suits is to just sensationalize and make good quotes for the press. If you read the original West/Zampella suit against Activision, it had the same sensationalist writing in it.

You say sensationalist, I say Kotick.

yeah... given the outspoken-ness of kotick and his general attitude towards games development in the past i don't think any of these things seem all that out of character or "sensationalized". i mean... there was a noticeable increase in security around the time of all these events happening.

i'd still like to hear the other side of the story of course... even though i'm going to assume it's going to be "that's just business" which is more of the usual.

A huge number of IW employees left or were fired. They kept leaving for weeks and months after West and Zampella were gone.

I think it was about half of the IW MW2 team that left, and the majority of those ended up joining Respawn Entertainment which was created by West and Zampella. Oddly enough, they choose to get funding for Respawn through EA, but supposedly they have something really strong in their contract about owning the IP and such.

I'm not sure enough of IW remains to make another full CoD game. They didn't just lose a few key people, they lost a lot of key people and regular people.

Who Remains At IW
