What the heck is FireDaemon and why is it crashing when Windows starts?

its a service manager.
like if you want to run a distributed computing project with a console(cmd line).
it can make that cmd line box hidden and run it as a service.
unintstall it from add/remove programs.

Does anyone else use your computer? Here is a description of it. Doesn't appear to be anything malicious.

It's used to piggyback maleware applications into your box. Harmless, but annoying.

I never installed it though.. and there is no option anywhere to uninstall it...

All I know is that all of a sudden when I booted up my computer I got a message telling me it failed to load and encountered an error..

Considering who the OP is, I'm not surprised he has "maleware" programs installed. ;)

FireDaemon is not malware. It is simply a utlility that allows any windows program to be turned into a Windows Service. Obviously if FireDaemon is present on a machine that you did not install it on, someone else did it, either from the console or via compromising the system. Throw up a software or hardware firewall and start checking matches on a deny all.

I'm joking around in good fun, not using the word "gay" in a derogatory manner. I believe that was what the mods were warning people about.

If you aren't behind a firewall and you also have Dameware installed you have been hacked!

Cheers!

Anytime a Daemon is on your computer and you didn't install it, I'd be highly suspicious of hacking activity. At my university there was a huge outbreak not too long ago, and I think FireDaemon was one of a couple dozen similar programs installed on one of my computers that I battled with. FireDaemon itself is harmless, but anyone who knows it is installed in your computer can possibly do you great harm (kindof the same argument that guns don't kill people, people kill people). You can attempt to remove it, and you may succeed, but in my experience the best bet is a fresh format with new virus protection, all the Windows updates, and a firewall.

If you didn't install it and you know no one else could have, I'm certain you have a trojan on your computer. You can see what program it is running under services, but it's usually something random like msd.exe or service.exe under some weird folder somewhere.

I hope that they're just using you as an ftp server for their movies and warez, but they could have installed keyloggers and other stuff and gotten all of your passwords and logins.
