hiberfil is a memory dump for when your computer hibernates. If you turn hibernation off this file won't be created and can be deleted on next bootup. The pagefile is, well, the system pagefile. Just because you may have more memory than your system is physically using doesn't mean that the OS isn't going to page to disk, thus this file exists. If these files are just leftover from a previous OS drive, then yes you can delete them no problem. Why not just format the drive?

I am basically going to delet stuff, and move stuff to other drives, then I will feel like I can safely format it.

No worries, this is a legitmate question. Its too bad there are so many elietest assholes around here.

As said before, hiberfil.sys is the memory storage file used for system hibernation. Its an option that basically allows you to turn your system off, and return to where you were, without closing programs. It can be 'deleted' by disabling system hibernation. Right click on your desktop, choose properties, change to the Screen Saver tab, then click the Power button, then switch to the Hibernate tab, uncheck the box, Ok click your way out and your good.

As for the pagefile.sys, just becuase Windows isnt installed on that drive doesnt mean Windows is not still using it. You should make sure its not listed in the Pagefile config tab, and also make sure you have a pagefile somewhere else. You need one.

Go ahead and try to delete the files. If it lets you delete pagefile.sys, then Windows isn't using it. If it tells you that it is still in use, go to Control Panel->System->Advanced->Performance Settings->Advanced Tab then change the correct values.

So I guess now all it takes to become elite is the ability to use google?

Why use Google when you can ask fellow users at AT? People don't post here with legit questions to be flamed.

Because it's generally faster, even though it only took 3 minutes to get a reply here it probably would have taken less than 1 to find the answer by just putting 'hiberfil.sys' into google.

Yeah and that justifies someone acting like a complete tool, too.

So, lets see....if you ask a question and I can find it on google, does that give me the right to act like this? I don't care who you are or what the question is, if you need to act like an ass for someone asking a question, please consider getting yourself sterilized and save us future grief from your children.

Let's kill the forum and use google. I think they're owned by Coca-Cola and EXXON.

Well if the first 5 hits on google all answer your question, perhaps it's you who needs to be sterilized so that you don't pass on the intellectual regressions you obviously possess.

OHHH I see...so instead of ignoring the post, you would rather come in here and "prove your intellect"?

Sorry, if I see a stupid question I just dont say anything or try to help. But I guess it is some people that feel the need to unleash the e-peen at other's expense. Sorry, Im not a loser, therefore I dont get off on trying to make someone feel like an idiot for asking a question.

No, it's the old 'teach a man to fish' axiom. Perhaps he really didn't know about Google, well now he does and after this stupid thread I'm willing to bet he'll look there first even if it's just to avoid people like MercenaryForHire.

Good job promoting not using the forums! We should just get rid of them like RVN suggested. Then just ONLY use google for help. We can use the fs/ft forum still, but there is no need for the others....

And if you feel like someone needs guidance, I am pretty sure that the PM feature is available and online...

The forums are here for discussion, which ideally should include answering the same questions over and over and over but what is the point? Why did people put all of that time into writing the FAQs if everyone was content to just sit around and answer the same questions all day?

My point is that yes, he can find it elsewhere. Yes, it was probably easy to find it.

But regardless, it doesnt mean that it is OK to ack like a choad. Think of it as "If you don't have anything nice to say..."

From what I understand, this board is not for picking on people for thier questions.
