If you mean the HD-D2 and HD-D3, I believe it's a specific model distributed to Costco, and the only difference from their HD-A* counterparts is that the D models include an HDMI cable.

why, oh why any HD player doesn't contain a $10 HDMI cable is beyond me...

I especially like it when they only come with composite cables. Although I've heard that you can treat these as component--just match the red-white-yellows of the cable to the same component inputs on player & TV...is this true?

How else is BB / CC / etc. going to make a profit off them unless they sell the $50-$200 HDMI cable to you too? ;)

Yeah, composite and analog audio cables will likely work, but they're probably not up to spec of the requirements for component.

$200 HDMI cables are required to get proper sound from your Bose system.
