What the heck? I didn't subscribe to Men's Health magazine

These guys sent a trial issue. Not even one. A very small book. Then they sent two issues (neither with my name printed on the cover or anything) in a small plastic bag with thin redundant issues of Women's Health that was nothing but promotional stuff to subscribe to their magazine and find out how get six pack abs (wow!) and pay hundreds of dollars for a shirt (a bargain!).

Now I have an invoice and an account number? It says they entered a subscription to the magazine back in 16 June and saying they haven't received payment yet. I certainly didn't cross anything that said, "Yes. I wish to subscribe to this magazine." and man do I want to contest this. What sort of things should I get ready for when I call and really hold back yelling at them tomorrow?

You received the trials, somehow, some way, you received the trials, you're subscribed. Best Buy and other large retailers are infamous for this scam.

It was probably in the fine print of something somewhere that you bought. You agreed to a "free gift" whereby they'd automatically sign you up for a subscription.

Are you sure you don't want this absolutely free no obligation issue of Men's Health?

Can I do this? I was actually thinking of doing this because it has that whole feeling to it until it said invoice, account number, "as of 7/18/08 we haven't received your payment" blah blah.

they never chase these accounts

either just ignore it (and they'll keep sending tons more) or write a big fat cancel across the bill and send it back
