:frown:I've been playing around with my new P35 DS4 and a Quad 6600. I wanted to use Giga's XpressRecovery2, but kept running into a "not enough space on HD" error. I played around with different partitioning of my primary HD (500gb WD) and finally came up with a setup that the program liked (2 partitions only; 1 allocated, 1 not allocated). I decided to play around with the partitioning some more and the next time I installed my OS, I got a BSOD!
" IRQL_Not_Less_or_Equal"
check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed
disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing
try safemode, etc
STOP: 0x00000004 (0x00000029, 0x00000002,0x00000000, 0x80544405)
What happened??
I ran diagnostic utilities on all 4 drives ( 3 diff brands, 3 diff utilities)
I ran Memtest 1.70 on my memory
All tests passed without errors.
My rig:
Gigabyte P35 DS4
Quad 6600 GO; Tuniq tower
Gskill 2x1gb DDR2 800; 1:1 ratio with Vdimm +0.25
EVGA 6600GTS 640 mb
Samsung SATA DVD's x 2
Benq 1655 ide
WD 500gb SATA drives x 2
Samsung 500gb SATA x 1
Seagate 500gb SATA x 1
Onboard sound
Corsair HX 620 watt PS
Gigabyte Aurora 570 case w/ 3 120mm fans
After the last BSOD (happened on my OS install after the hardware passed diagnostics), I restarted the computer and the continued the OS installation and actually finished it.
I don't feel very warm and fuzzy about this though cuz I think the OS install won't be stable.
EDIT: after 1st reboot after OS installation, I got the "windows has recovered from a serious error message"
Any ideas what may have happened? Some of the literature on XpressRecovery 2 mentions permanently saving data on the drive. Is this some sort of permanent, invisible partition that I can't remove and borks OS installations?
Do the passed diagnostic tests rule out my drives and memory?
Is my PS strong enough?
Should I RMA the mobo and just use the new IP35pro I've got sitting around?
Sorry for the long winded post, but I'm at a loss and frustrated that just as I was poised to "upgrade" my kids computer with my Opteron 170, Murphy's Law rears it's ugly head.
