What the Dilly?? Why am I stuck @170FSB???

Ok, I am getting pissy!! I am doing everything I can think of to get past the 170FSB barrier and keep getting nuked!!!

Spec's in sig.

I run 100% stable @ 170fsb, but if I go to 175 or higher it's not happening (crashes during prime95 or 3dmark 2001se).

Now, I have not upped the CPU or Memory voltage (last resort) so that certainly could be my problem, but I would think that 175 without a voltage tweak should be achievable.

I am using pc3500 XMS and a fine OC board in the epox 8k5a2 plus an 800SLK to keep it all chilly (35c), so what am I missing here?

Currently running @ 11x170 for 1870mhz

any input will be appreciated.

how is northbridge temperature?

do you have a whole bunch of pci cards you didnt list in sig?

probably just up the vcore, it should take care of it
dont be afraid to go to 1.85 as it looks like u have a pally

Man, be happy that you have a palamino running that high, that a big accomplishment! Now to go to www.cnetpc.com and buy
a 1700+, you most likely will get a nice revision Tbred Bb (easily hit 2400+ speeds) and be able to do some better FSB, as well as have an unlocked CPU

Thanks all.

Yup, looks like I hit the ceiling @ 170*11.5 @1955 on this one. I even tried dropping the FSB down and going with a higher multiplier to no avail.

It looks like I am sitting happy at 170 and will leave it at that until I get a new CPU down the road (along with a fresh new 8RDA).

Cheers,
Mj

ps. to answer a question from this thread: Nope, no extra PCI cards being used. I even got rid of my 10/100 card and am using the onboard ethernet connection (which is a faster transfer rate anyway).

mj, I wouldn't get rid of that 8K5A2+ yet if I was you! I've got the "non-plus" model, with 512Mb Kingston PC2700, and the highest I could get for FSB was 178.

BUT - with an XP1700 T-Bred "B", I can run that combo all day at 2225MHz! I just got an N-Force board and 512Mb of Twinmos-Winbond PC3200, and it's struggling to get over 180FSB with the same chip!

So, if I was you, I'd try a new T-Bred in your present board before you rush out and buy a new motherboard. I think you'll find it will run like a scalded cat! I'm ready to put my "slow" T-Bred 1700 "A" that only does 1.92G in the N-Force with the Kingston, and put the fast stuff back in the 8K5A2!

Hmmm, sounds interesting. I guess there may be some life left in the 'ol 8k5a2+ after all. Looks like I am off to find a T-Bred B.

Thanks again!
