What the diff between DP and regular?

Twice the cream filling.

In all seriousness, you're comparing apples and oranges. You can show the same movie on film or in a digital format.

A digital media format vs a film one

ayep, but the concept is the same. Use light and a lens to project an image.

if same, then why is dig proj suppose to be better?

and why doesnt all theaters switch to dig proj since a dvd doesnt break as easily as film? and cheaper to replace

Because a digital format does not suffer from being played over and over again. Everytime a film is shown at the theater the film get dirtier/scratched...you get the point.

The reason they don't switch is cost of equipment. They would have to replace each of their projectors and the machines that read the soundtrack. Not exactly cheap and tends to raise ticket prices beyond what consumers want to pay.

Also, they wouldn't be showing the DVD in a movie theater. A DVD on a movie screen would look horrendous. 480 interlaced lines of resolution on a....oh lets say 25 ft(tall) or so screen is around 1.6 lines of resolution per inch. This would be a huge downgrade from film.

The projectors they would use would read a format that is much higher quality and also much higher in cost
