It doesn't seem to be a retail version, but I got one back today as an RMA replacement. Is it a refurbed 80 gigger with damage on one of the platters perhaps?

What on earth are you trying to ask?? 89Gb or 60Gb??
Yes, that's what I got back. The model number is listed on IBM's hard drive site, but retail/OEM versions only come in multiples of 40 GB as far as I can tell.
I remember seeing someone other than you got a 60Gb back from RMA. It's not a disc with one side of it's platter damge but just unused. It's still good. Be glad that you got a 120GXP.
I see they have 20, 60, and 100 gb versions listed if you look by model number but apparently they aren't "buyable" drives. But yes, it is a nice free upgrade from my old 45gb 75 GXP. Too bad the thing died after less than a year.
Googlegear is SELLING OEM 60GB 120GXPs. These aren't disks with one platter half defective. They simply leave one platter half used, and leave out an arm.
They are meant for the OEM market, so that OEMs can scale their HDD capacity without having to jump from 40 - 80 GBs.
I just RMA'd 100gb of drivespace *ugh*: 1 40gb 60gxp (failed, bad sectors) and 1 60gb 60gxp (failed, bad sectors.) I got back a 40gb 60gxp and a 60gb 120gxp.
Can you guess which one of these drives will be for sale on Anandtech this afternoon?
