What the Dell?!

Ok, I know everyone hates Dells, but I've just bought one because my dad would only give me some money towards a new PC for university if I got one retail, and not build myself. What he thinks is besides the point, the Dell seems pretty good value. But i've noticed some very strange things.

1). My Dell Dimension 8400 costed almost $100 less in the UK than it does to buy the equivalent in the US. And the "equivalent " I'm talking about only has an inferior sound card, but the everything else is the same.

2). Dell want to charge $25 for a cable to with your "free printer", but at the same time, will uprade my 2GB of DDR2 RAM from 400MHz to 533MHz for around $20.

3). Why does it take Dell 7-10 working days to build a PC? I'd understand if there was a queue in which you waited 9 days until its your turn to get your PC built, and then they did it in a day, but Dell make it look like an ongoing process. For a few days your PC is in "pre-production" while theyre looking for the parts. Then it takes a few more days to plug everything together, then a few days to put it in a box. This ongoing process which they let you monitor has go to be a gimmick surely.

Any comments or other things that make 'no sense in Dell'?
 
Well, this is just a guess, but they're not serving just you. So as you said, you are probably in some sort of line and they get to it when they get to it, and you are forced to wait until they see fit 🙂
 
I agree AiponGkooja.

But why do they bother making it sound like a continuing process. More Dell marketing I guess, maybe passes the time while you wait for it to arrive!
 
1) Your point? We get most electronics cheaper here in the US, why whinge the one time you get a break?

2) Why not? suckers pay $25 instead of buying a $5 cable somewhere else = more money for Dell. That free printer is a trap anyway, to sell you ink carts that cost more per litre than the finest champagne.

3) Like AiponGkooja said, you are in a queue. Allowing customization means your PC is often not pre-assembled.
