What the crap!

I joined anandtech forums about 3 days ago. I really only joined because i think my 8500DV video card is too slow. I found a nice x800xt for a good price, and i pmed the guy. So everything's going fine between us UNTIL he asks for my heatware/ebay record. I had a previous ebay record, but its 2 years old and only has 1 trade. Heatware was created at the same time as the forums registered for. Guy never pm'ed me again, not even a friggen explanation. Doesn't even have the courtesy to tell me he's not interested. Can't even let me know so i can question about other people's deals. Just shuts me out. Just like that.

I understand buy/sell newbs are looked down upon, mostly cause you can get scammed really easily by trolls posing. But what does a newb have to do to buy a video card!?

I even offered to give photos of my DRIVER'S LICENSE, my ONTARIO DRIVER'S LICENSE. It has my Age, Adress, Photo, Full Name, EVEN my eyesight condition! How much more do i have to do so someone can trust me?! I offered to pay first, obviously. I offered evidence to show i'm not a troll. I wrote a guide for the forum! I'm here out of interest! not because i want to make a quick dollar at someone's expense! I've been a regular reader of anandtech articles for a LONG time, I started back in fall 2005!

There might not be much i can do. I'm a newb, i have no heatware. BUT EVERYONE HAS TO START SOMEWHERE!

I think this isn't only the problem with the sellers. I would take some precautions myself if i were in that position, but driver's license? what more do you want? Passport?. Trolls are to blame as well. Trolls have ruined the name of newbies, have degraded the trust in the forums, and have crashed the party. The good times are over people, the good times are over.

Not that you have time to do it, but I first started posting on OT. Once I built up a good post count and members knew me, then I started trading. There are plenty of traders, though, that will trade with newbs, otherwise we'd never get new members to trade with. You must have just run into a jerk.

Iono, but a good trader wouldn't have done that. I remember when I just started, people were still nice to me. The only thing was, when they bought, I shipped first, when they sold, I payed first.

They don't have anything to worry about if you have to go first. Hope you find good deals with better traders in the future.

Don't take it so personal, you can get some great deals here but it will take some time to build a good repuatation. Plus an ebay record with 1 feedback from 2 years ago isn't even worth mentioning. Most probably won't give you such a hard time about being a new trader, just trade with someone else.

Fall 2005 is not a long time.

If you want to buy stuff as a newbie, expect to pay first until you're established.

so wait...why would someone not reply if you were buying their item and had no heat? Did you not want to pay first or something?? I'm confused...

I'd say you did everything that was expected of you. You were more than forthcoming with your personal information, and offered to pay first. Your kind of actions speak volumes about having good character, and I really don't know why the person didn't even bother PMing you again. I mean we were all "n00bs" at one time, waiting to get our first chance.

rude and inconsiderate trader. he was the exception on the FS/T forums.

don't let it get to you and be glad that you found out what his character was like before money was thrown into the equation.

edit: my post it meant ... if he just dropped you. if he has not signed into the forums since you PMed him... maybe he did not get it.
