I am looking to downgrade from a 5 piece/ sub theater system...

I do use my speakers for DVD sometimes, but most of the time I use it for music...and the cluter is starting to drive me mad..

I want to get this new speaker system down to maybe 3 or 2 sattelites and a sub. i am leaning towards a midiland 3 piece since it has the bay mounted control pad, but is 60W enoght to satisfy my need for loudness? Anything better suited for this with extreme quality for music playback....

money not a huge issue, but keep it in mind (not planning on paying $250 or above)...

thanks.

I personally think one of the best 3 piece systems I have heard are the Altec Lansing ATP3 speakers. They sound awesome, and are pretty powerful but definitely not the most powerful out there. If you want awesome sound go for the ATP3 speakers, and the slim design was made to clear up all the clutter on your desk. Check them out here:

dew042,

This is an older model but probably the single best 3 piece system i've ever heard. Boston Acoustics used to make a setup called the Media Theatre, it had 2 satellites and a nice subwoofer. Tons of people still have these 2.1 setups available, and I see them go on eb@y all the time! Just go search over there for the media theatre. If you want some specific links to make sure you're looking at the right ones, send me a private message and I'll be glad to look over whatever you've found. For the price you can pick these up for (generally $80-110 brand new) you simply cannot beat it. Even spending a bit more money really won't help you because most of the high end speaker systems are 5 speaker setups. This is definitely without a doubt the way to go for a 3 piece setup.

Oh, and they are VERY loud and VERY clear with great bass response =)

I'll second divinemartyr's recommendation, but add another thought to this. I have set of the BA Micro Theatre speakers, which are the Media Theatre's little brothers, and the new version of the MT's are digital, and awesome.

But, if you can wait a little while, Klipsch is releasing a new 2.1 version of their ProMedia's, and reportedly they've fixed the problems of the ProMedia 4.1 setup in the 2.1. Things such as nearly non-existent midrange (please no flames from you happy 4.1 users, I'm only passing along what I've read in previews), no headphone plugin, no on-off switch, sub-woofer irregularities, etc.

I can't wait to hear them, I may have to spring for the anticipated $199 price and find someone to buy my BA's.

For those Klipsch speakers why not spend the other $50 and get the other 2 speakers... just don't use them until you feel the need for some 4 speaker surround sound ;)

I dislike Klipsch, and I love Boston. I won't feel comfortable with Klipsch's fix of the mid-range on the Pro-Media 2.1 system until I read a review from 3D SoundSurge. GamersDepot is biased as hell! The Pro-Media 2.1 looks like a promising system, though, if Klipsch really fixed the mid-range problem. Those Klipsch Horns are still too shrill for my tastes, though.

The BA635s are an awesome little system, costing around $70. The BA790s are a great digital, 2.1 system costing around $100. The Altec Lansing ACS48s have been around and receiving rave reviews for some 2 years! They normally sell in the $100-$130 range; people swear by them, though I have never heard them personally. I don't feel comfortable recommending the BA MediaTheater speakers as I think they are outdated and over-priced. Harman Kardon has some interesting speakers out; they may be worth a look.

Although Klipsch is the best, you won't really notice too much of a difference between the klipsch and the altecs besides the sub power. The reason I stayed away from the klipsch speakers was because of the outrageous prices. I would rather buy a new processor or more ram before spending 250 bucks on speakers.

Do not make claims w/o backing it up... come on you haven't even heard the promedia's have you? There are much better system out there than the promedia's
And YES you will notice a big enough difference between klipsch and altec and altecs... it's all in the sound

Good thing I have heard the speakers, and on the budget I am on, I just could not get those speakers. The only difference I really notice is just the power of the klipschs but not worth an extra 200 bucks to me. And hmmm, super fast computer with "average" speakers or medium fast computer with "kickarse" speakers? Tough choice...
