What Th...?? Bios Recognizes CD-ROM As "Non-ATAPI" Device

I have a new BTC 56x CD-ROM. I must have used 50 of these drives in new systems and I've never had this problem before. The bios (in different systems) sees it as a "non-ATAPI" or ADROM device. (I gather the latter designation is actually for a zip or LS-20 drive, etc.) Anyway, how do I get it recognized as an ATPAPI device and/or CD-ROM?

Dunno, your "new" 56X may have been sitting on the shelf for three years. Did it come with manual/datasheet?
If so, that would tell you if its ATAPI compliant

May be defective - get another.

Is there some kind of jumper on back?

I'm sure a firmware update would fix it, if electronics was good (if you could find it)

Bozo Galora: Thanks for the response. The manufacture date is 9/2001. I've tried different IDE cables, IDE channels, jumper settings, etc. The problem isn't bios-specific either, as it happens with both Award and AMI bioses. I sent an e-mail to BTC's tech support this afternoon. This should be good.
