First time putting together a PC this hot. From all the discussion, I realize that the mobo temp monitors aren't too great. But they're all I've got.

Anyone with MSI Pro2A and similar size processor who can tell me what temps I should be seeing reported?

ESPECIALLY - what temps should have me reaching for the kill switch?!?!

Here's my setup:
K7T Pro-2A
1.1GHz Thunderbird
GlobalWin FOP32-1 with standard heat tape

With an MSI board, I'd say that 45 C. is where you hould back down.. With my Duron running at 1.035GHz, MSI's motherboard monitor tells me that it's running at 36 C. after playing UT for about forty-five minutes.. Highly doubt that's correct.

The one thing that effects the Temp of a Thunderbird of Duron the most is good case air flow. I built a new system with a T-Bird 750@1050 and put it in an ATX midtower that I had used for an Intel system. I was running at 55c idle and 60c under load. AMD tech support said this was OK, but it seemed high to me. Although I never had any crashes of problems at this Temp. I have since added one 80mm intake fan on the side of the case and a 80mm exhaust fan on the top. My temp is now 42c at idle and 45c under load. I am using the same Alpha that I built the system with. Just remember what ever you do AMD is going to run hotter that an Intel system. I would not be concerned until your Temp reaches the high 50's C.

I forgot to mention that Motherboard Monitor 5.0 is a great program by Alexander Van Kaam. It is free and it works great on VIA chip sets. Good Luck.

seeing that the 1100mhz chip is 60W peak and rated to 95C core, with the FOP38, i would set the max temp at around 55-60C. IF your readings right now are around 45-50, then you don't have much to worry about.
