On a 1700+ @ 2.2, 1.7v on an NF7-S v2.0...

67C full load w/panaflo M1a (32cfm)

I think this mb is off... way off actually. The comp has been a tank so far in the past 4-5 days I've been hammering it with prime, mpeg encoding and now F@H. I've been reluctant to push the chip any higher until I find out what the actual cpu temperature is.

Dang, I am a little suprised at some of these load temps with the SK-7 and a good fan. :Q

I have an Epox 8RDA with a 2000+ XP (not overclocked) and my load temps are around 50-52C with the retail HSF. I was considering getting the SK-7 and really was just expecting temps in the low to mid 40s. Of course, its really not a valid comparison considering the variances in temperature readings on various MBs.

Thermaltake SmartFan II @ +/- 3200rpm with AS3 on Epox 8RDA+

1800+ TBred o/ced to 2Ghz @ 1.85v. case temps 28 C, idle 38, load 43 .

BlueWeasel, the SK-7 is still one of the best heatsink for it's price though :) If I don't o/c, my temps hardly goes about 35 deg C at the same case temps

idle at 38c is pretty low. what is your ambient temp? I'm running at 40c case, 57c cpu, and 22c (72f). Temps used to be 28c case, 47 cpu but now it is summertime and my temps are much higher than before.

XP 1600+ @ stock, 1.75v. SK-7 with 80mm NMB fan ~53c idle, 58c load. The fan is a little quieter than a Panaflo L1A, but doesn't push quite as much air (I think 18cfm vs. 24cfm of the L1A). I've got an MSI kt4v-l mobo.

With the Panaflo L1A @ 12v, temps seemed to be around 47c idle to 52c or so. With the L1A at 7volts, temps were around 52c idle, 56c load, but that was back in the winter when room temps were cooler.

One intake L1A @ 7v, one exhaust L1A in the PSU @ 7v. That's all the cooling I've got. I'm tempted to get one of the Antec SLK3700's because of the 120mm intake/exhaust fan slots.

Does anyone know if a thoroughbred "B" in the range of xp1700+ to xp2100+ will run cooler than my current xp1600+?

Thanks,

That's because every board reads differently. Temperatures aren't really relevant when compared to a different setup, only with changes in your own setup or same mobo setups.
eg: Asus boards read a higher, 'more accurate', core cpu temp. Epox 8k3a series boards used to read a straight internal temp, but now read a higher, again 'more accurate', socket temp, as do the Epox 8k5a series boards.
Everybody does it differently.

It's my understanding that any relatively new board (maybe KT333 and up) should be reading the temp from the diode in the athlon xp's. I know my temps with the 1600+ and a GC68 + L1A were around 44c idle with my old ECS K7S5A. Now the temps with the SK-7 + L1A are 47-48c with my MSI KT4V-L (KT400). I never did a comparison of the GC68 and SK-7 on the same board. But I believe the difference is attributable to the MSI board getting the temps from the diode on the CPU.

If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Thanks,

I think the Tbred 'B' chips are supposed to run a little cooler than their Palomino brethren. However, I haven't seen a temperature comparison between a Palomino and Tbred in a similar speed range.

You're on the nose, though I don't believe the different temp probe techniques are as clearly defined from board to board as the chipset. As I mentioned in my previous post, Asus boards have always been this way, at least as long as I've been aware.

Oh, looks like the new Barton 3000 is hotter than the T-Bird 1.4 and the 2100+ Palomino, we have a new champion :D

XP1900+ w/ an Sk-7, fan is a zalman at 7 volts (don't remember model no atm) with a few other case fans on a fan bus. I run mid 30s to upper 40s depending on room temp.
