My friend just setup his AMD 5600 using a scythe ninja and he's idling at 38, what kind of temps are people getting with their AMD's? He's running stock btw...

Thanks

Not bad. I'm idling at 40C with a CU Zalman 7700. I'm hitting 56C under stress. Going to add a side fan to bring it down a little.

Hmz, casefan sucking the hot air out, with a artic freezer 64 pro, I'm idling at 38, load temps are slightly below 55celsius doing small fft's, ambient temp is 19-20 celsius. This is with a passively cooled videocard, idling at 50 celsius. Let's see how my new 8800gts spices things up, when it arrives 2morrow. Must say, I'm also getting a new PSU that could or could not produce more heat, and a PCI slot cooler, interesting :p

I have an X2 3800+ running at 2.4GHZ and it runs at around 32C idle and 48C full load on a Scythe Ninja. Stock volts too.

I have a 939 X2 3800+ running at 2.6 GHz that idles between 32 and 34 depending on room temp... gets into the low 50's under a normal gaming load. I'm also using a stock Athlon 64 3500+ heatsink, not a normal X2 heatsink with heatpipes.

*EDIT* Default voltage.

I idle at 32C and top out at 50C according to PC Probe. I'm using the stock AMD cooler running the chip at 2.1ghz@1.25vcore according to BIOS. Ambient is around 22C.

See my topic on my temps link

What temps any of us are running is going to be drastically different from his, even if we're using a 5600, or running another X2 @ 2.8 Ghz, even if we're using the same heatsink. Both load and idle temps are fairly dependent on ambient temps, but also are dependent upon case airflow, motherboard, BIOS revision, etc. Anyway, here's what my Opteron 170 idles at, at 2.8 Ghz, in a 76F room: link, with two 79 cfm 120 mm case fans, along with a 110 cfm fan on my Ninja B. It runs about 12 or 13 degrees hotter while running Orthos, if I remember correctly.

X2 4200+ @ 2.7GHz. Scythe Samurai Z.

36C idle, 55C full orthos load. Gaming usually it will be around 48C.

If you all are gonna throw out temp's would you mind adding your voltage number

thanks,

x2 3800+ @2.6 1.4v 33c idle, 50c mprime (both cores) with stock 4 pipe hsf

Your friend's temperatures sound about right. I tested my AMD X2 at the same speed as the X2 5600+(2.8GHZ) with a similar cooler(Scythe Mine) and my temps are about 40C idle and 55C load.

I use the stock ones on the Cooler Master Centurion. When I had an 8800GTS my temps were considerably higher. If you're talking about your crossfire rig, your temps might be higher than mine. I have 1 7900GT(runs pretty cool).

no actually i was referring to my Opty rig, it tends to idle near 50celcius but the zalman hsf
running on full power

In my Shuttle XPC I'm getting around 40 idle, 52 or so full load. I'm satisfied enough for a SFF. I also turned the fans down to Ultra-Silent in the bios, anything less and it sounds like a airplane hanger. I'm sure I could get the temps lower if I increased the fan speed, but it's a trade off between a few degrees of heat or putting on a set of earphones.

Well, do you have roughly 300 cfm of fans in your case, like I do?:D

http://pcgamespecial.nl/users/marc/speedfan.JPG

What would my temps be according to that, myocardia ? Btw, do you notice the difference in our speedfan apps ? Same version though.

The only differences between "your" version of SpeedFan and "mine" are the fact that I have all of the readings labeled, and I don't have it list the core, because the core reading with third party software has never worked correctly for AMD's chips. You'll be much closer to your true core temp, if you just add 10-12°C to the socket temp (Temp 1 in SpeedFan).

That's because our chips are all running between 2.6 & 2.8 Ghz. If we were running over 3.0 Ghz, we'd be both idling and loading at higher temps than we are now.

Ooh, that's awfully warm for a 4000 that's only running @ 2.7 Ghz. Here's what my 4000 idles at: 27-28C @ 2.8 Ghz.

actually my opty is currently running at 3055GHz (13*235)
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=214587
with the case open, its currently idle @ 42-43 but with the case closed and sealed
it idles @ 52-53 ...
didnt know it makes that much of a differnce with the case open/closed

on orthos, running blend - stress cpu & ram it goes up to 56-57 with the case closed...
but running the small FTTs it goes up to 65 with the case closed... scared me that i stopped
the program instantly

Better stick a nice side fan in that case. I'm going to stick one in mine with a filter on it. This AOpen HX-01 is a steel full-tower server case. I've got one front 80mm intake and two rear 80mm exhaust at the top in addition to the Noisetake fans on low. I'm only sticking 1.38v to Opty because I'm running this OCZ as fast as it will go at 2.9v and 1T. I want to keep a 1:1 ratio. I have :thumbsup:my shut down temp set at 72C.

Yeah, 72C is too hot. Here's why: AMD motherboards use the cpu socket temp (temp 1 in SpeedFan) to determine when to throttle, and when to shut down, not the mistakenly high core #1 core temp. You should set your shut down temp to either 60C or 65C, whichever you're more comfortable with.
