What temp program is accurate?

I have my cpu heatsink passive so knowing the exact temperatures my cpu gets to are important to me. So does anyone know which of the temperature programs is the best for telling the temperature for the cpu?
on coretemp I hit about 56 load 40 ish idle.
on realtemp I'm about 49 load 33 ish idle.
and OCCT has me up to 61 load.
Anyone know which of these is accurate and if so what the safe temps are in the program for an e7300?

I'm on a slight overclock to 3.4 Ghz now with just a nudge to voltage. If my temps are hot I'll probably undervolt and dial down the OC a bit.

CoreTemp is THE program to use. Period. It reads the actual on-die (embedded inside the CPU core) sensor. Motherboard monitoring programs like what came with your Asus MB read the CPU SOCKET temps. That's why you'll notice a discrepancy b/t what your MB program says and what CoreTemp says.

What HSF are you using? Hopefully not the stock Intel HSF? The stock HSF is good for a VERY mild overclock. Definitely not for the overclock you have (which is nice, BTW 🙂)

I'm using a gemini II passive. I could probably install some fans on it, but the ones I've got atm are kind of loud. My case should have pretty good airflow though since it does have a 200 mm fan blowing air out the top.

I've tried taking the cpu up to 4.0 Ghz, but I need 1.45 volts to get it looking stable.
Not willing to try full stability test with this heatsink passive since according to core temp my temp goes to 60 just starting prime.

Use the last CoreTemp or the last RealTemp, since they're the most accurate. There is no way you should overclock the cpu that high in passive mode since you'll kill it. Put some fans on it, if you want performance or let it passive at stock.

What's "normal" as far as the temp range from room ambient to cpu idle for an air-cooled setup?
I know one would want ones idle temp the same as room ambient, but I don't think that's possible on air.

IMO every temperature monitoring program is only as accurate as the sensor is and we've seen quite a lot of sensors that are pretty much messed up but the chips themselves aren't bad.

OK running prime this morning. These temps are based on core temp 0.99.3.
idle: 35 C (disabled speed stepping so still on 10)
load: 55-56 C
ambient: 20 C
runnning 3.33 Ghz at 1.25V (mobo) (1.232 in CPU-Z)
