I've un-oc'ed my 1.8A in an attempt to find where it overheats
and starts running at a lower clock.

When my mobo (asus p4b533) starts with the audibles,
cpu temp is at about 55C(according to MBM), but I find this
somewhat hard to believe, as the POS idles at 51C.
That's even with my Tt Spark 7 @ 6K rpm

on a side note, here are my idling temps in correspondence to clock,
do these seem right to you guys?:

1.8A @ 1818MHz = 51C
1.8A @ 2424MHz = 51C
1.8A @ 2610MHz (1.6V) = 52C

thanks in advance for any help..

long time sys admin / OC noob, looking for a clue :)

Officially, I believe the ramp-down is supposed to commence at 67C core temperature. More info here, it's quite interesting. :)

I agree with ThugsSomething is wrong here.Download Asus Probe from your CD.Double check the heatsink is on properly. Are uyou using arctic silver 2 or 3 for paste?.Not that it would drop the temps a lot.You can shut the CPU throttling off in the bios, disabled.

Thanks for all the replies.. that's what I was afraid of..

Ive never been able to get Probe installed on this box..
I've tried installing the last 3 releases and I get the same error
each time. It appears to install fine, then when started it looks for
a file called bcbsmp35.bpl, which it says is not a valid
windows image.. But I have no idea where to get a fresh version of
this file from. It's not on the w2k cd anyways. I've openned a ticket
with asus in the past and the latest release was supposed to correct that,
so I went through and cleaned out the registry, reinstalled that
release,.. same error. Im going to look at a couple other windows boxes here to see if
maybe I can just grab that file from another os instance.

As for paste, Im using the coolermaster stuff. I couldnt find AS3 locally.

I'll wait for my cpu to cool a bit, then I'll doublecheck the heatsink for
contact, but I'm 99.9% sure that that's not the problem as I was
running it w/ the case open today for a second. I think I would have noticed.

So, I guess my next question is.. what IS a good temp for this mobo @ 1.8 and 2.4?

thanks again for all the help. I really appreciate it.

wow.

This is the other strange thing.. in MBM, cpu temp is at 51*C,
but Sandra says it more like 39-41.
Although, I can sit and watch the temp in cmos rise to about
43*C, so I'm not quite sure what to believe at this point.

I guess it's time to open another ticket with the help desk.

thanks alot for everyone's help.. especially Thugsrook..
I really appreciate it.
