What system will be faster... Rambus Vs. DDR? (see inside for more info)

Ok... Let me start off my saying that a friend is give me a its old computer thats use Rambus, so play don't tell me thats Rambus sucks or anything like that... I just want to see what one would be faster..

My main computer(see sig) I run day to day at 2.4(16X150) with DDR400
The computer that i'm geting have a 1.8 CPU so if I'm able to overclock the chip to 2.4(18X133) will it be faster because of the Rambus?

I would guess the Rambus would br faster beause of the mem bandwidth

I really don't know that much about Rambus but when i say "faster" I mean for games 😀 that way i'll be able to setup one computer for work/school and the other for gaming?

What do you guys think?

Depends on what memory ratios you are using. I will assume you are using the 3:4 with the DDR in order to run DDR 400 at 150 FSB and a 1:1 ratio for the RAMBUS. In that case, it is really a draw as to which one is faster. Since you overclock, I would go DDR since most i850 boards don't have the AGP/PCI lock.

Will at 133 i don't have to use any AGP/PCI locks
I'll look at it this way
(16X150) with DDR would use 3.2Ghz mem bandwidth
(18X133) would have 4.2Ghz mem bandwidth
but like Pentium said DDR haves lower latencies... so i'm really unsure
I guess there only be one way to tell and that is to do testing to see

That's such a tired explanation, which BTW, is wrong. The 850E wasn't the king of P4 platforms for so long for nothing. The PC1066 vs DDR400 SC (Single Channel) is NO contest in favor of PC1066... Though you probably won't notice it in day to day tasks, you will in memory bandwidth intensive tasks.

Pentium, I have a question for you: if the so-called lower latency of DDR makes it faster, than why is E7205 (Intel's new Dual-Channel DDR chipset) slower than the i850E with RDRAM?

Answer: Dual-Channel RDRAM has LOWER LATENCY that Dual-Channel DDR.

Well, so much for the latency excuse.

In my opinion, that fact that Intel is trying to retire RDRAM (something they should have done long ago) is reason enough not to use it.

go with the rambus setup, so that when people ask you what kind of computer you have, you can say you have a "RIMM job." that is just about the most convincing reason i can come up with.

It would just mean I would have to swap parts out and buy some Rambus too...
and yodayoda I think i'll ship on that.....
