What Summer Job

I'm a college freshman looking for a summer job, but I don't want to do anything food service related. I filled out applications for Best Buy and Circuit City, but I doubt they're going to hire me. Any suggestions and what kind of jobs have you guys done in the past?

I've worked at Circuit City before. You have to call them they won't call you, and you have to do a series of interviews. Each time you do an interview they say they'll call you but they don't you still have to call them. Best Buy is probably the same way, with any employer it's definitely safer to call them - frequently - even if they say they'll call you.
You could also check out Summer openings at the school, they probably need security guards, people to install software, easy stuff like that.
Also try your school's placement center, along with the employers that are looking for graduates they'll also have employers that are looking for students.
For extra money you could sign up at Treasure Trooper. You register at sites like iWon.com and/or sign up for free trials and get paid for it. You'll need some throwaway email addresses for spam. I made $87 last month without spending any money.

I think that URL is banned.

I worked for Circuit City in the past, I did their online app, but never called. I think they were desperate, though, because two or three of their warehouse guys had just left in really quick succession and they needed to fill the openings. I would suggest you try for a warehouse position it the location has an airconditioned warehouse (sorta rare, I hear. Mine was.) because you don't have to worry about looking busy when you aren't, and you get to drive the stockpicker and the like. It just seemed like a better gig than the floor monkeys.
